Isolation got you bored? Check this out #6

We went into lock down on the 23rd of march which seems like eternity ago, fast forward 11 weeks and here we are… still in lock down. It’s been difficult for many different reasons, we have been divided and united in so many ways, things are almost collapsing around us yet we are the strongest we have ever been. I wish everyone well and want to say how impressed I am with the connections we have formed and the movements being made in this bizarre time we are facing all over the planet.

Over this time I have been doing this series to keep people entertained and seeing artists creations whilst we are not able to attend the events we usually would to showcase them. I have really enjoyed doing them, sharing with you some of my favorite artists, getting to know new ones myself and posting something positive to support these people.

This is the sixth in the  ‘Isolation got you bored’ series. If you haven’t seen the rest then you can read them  here.

Beautiful images by Stelios Choustoulakis

SHORT BIO:
Stelios Choustoulakis is a Greek photographer from the island of Crete. His main interests in photography portraiture, theater and the human body. He is co-founder of the “Pixathlon Athens” photographic contest. He has collaborated with the National Theater Drama School, the Onassis Foundation and many theatrical teams in various productions. In November 2014 he held his first solo exhibition “Snake and Lilly” based on the first novel of N. Kazantzakis, a photographic homage including portraits and nudes. He worked as a photographer for the production of the world’s first feature-length painted animation, the Oscar nominated “Loving Vincent”. He currently lives in Bristol, UK.
NEW ERA:
In this 2015-16 project, I explored the complicated nature of my long-distance relationship with my London-based (now ex) partner. In this kind of relationships, ‘where’ is stripped off its rational sense. The physical location within a certain space gives its place to ‘when/for how long/until’. And that is how ordinary environments and locations gain extraordinary meaning. In “New Era”, I captured my partner in semi-staged, every-day environments that transform into meaningful ones within the relationship. Every photo reflects the will to preserve the essence and the memories of her and revokes the dark, unnatural feelings emerging along the way. Above all, the project delves into the complexities surrounding the notions of preservation and protection, the differences and boundaries between them, as well as the representations of the physicality of the female body, as a site of social signifiers.

Isolation got you bored? Check this out!

I’m currently finding that the COVID-19 virus is really affecting my work as an artist, all of the events I was supposed to be attending have been cancelled or postponed and I’ve been left with nothing to prepare for and lots of time on my hands. This is affecting a lot of people I know for many different reasons and it’s a sad situation to be in, however we can look for the positives in these times too, for example I have had the time to catch up with all the work I’ve been putting off or not had time for and even focus on new projects.

I wanted to help out my friends that are struggling at the moment, whether they are struggling for money or just with finding something to do during isolation. I know I have so many creative folk around me that need to share their work with the world and what better time?

So if you are finding it difficult to find things to entertain you whilst quarantined then look no further! This post contains some incredible work by incredible people. The artists are credited at the bottom of each piece with links to their social media pages, please take the time to look at their work and find your new favorite artists!

Mediaphiles: English shiterature

Print the Legend!

In stories and anecdotes, words, names and segments

In half truths, in tragic tones, exaggerations

As the phychobabble

Guillotine gobs

And tortured tongues

Get it wrong

One mans income

To a dozen others downfall

Print the legend!

We worship the sun, the mail that’s in the mirror

Giving gossip instead of gospel before you eat your evening dinner

The lords prayer just got thicker by a stretch

Sport at the back, delivery’s spent

We are delivered from evil

They have shown us our enemies

Politicians, perverts, exposed celebrities

Though the dogma does differ in its various entities

In the church of the media, there are no obscenities

But can you ever really hide from this insufferable slander?

Simply amputating libelous limbs is not the answer

Rupert Murdoch’s monster media machine

Is a literal salamander

So I won’t react but in response here’s my apology unhampered:

“And lead us not to manipulation but deliver us with candour”

Find it in the back, following the coverage of the terror attack.
